When you think of hypocrisy what comes to mind? Often times we use this word in consideration of others rather than oneself. Unfortunately this narrow view of the world has consequences that are seen if attention is paid.
Often though, people do not pay attention. Instead the explanation or blame is laid on the feet of others. Accountability is often deficient when it comes to self but often expected of others.
How many times have you as a individual ignored things around yourself rather than speaking up? At work you see someone not being treated in a way that you agree with but ignored it because it was not yourself? At home how many times have you ignored things in your neighborhood without engaging with your community for the change you feel is needed?
This can go on and on in many parts of our lives and we fail to seize the opportunity to improve the world around us in meaningful ways. Starting with the people immediately in your life and working outward to the politics that impact your life. People love to say they dislike politics but in a open and honest way this is a disrespect to the world around each of us and the positive impact we can have on it. Speaking up can improve the lives of others in ways that you do not immediately see. Kindness is free and easy to give yet often is hard to do.
How hard is it to simply be nice to someone in a way that makes them feel whole? Too often we are nice to others in ways that make us feel good with very little regard for how the other person feels. It is easy to refer to someone by their name they wish to be called or by the simple pronouns they are comfortable with. It does not impact your world at all to call someone He, Shey, or They. It does not impact your world to actually enunciate their name yet each day we avoid the simple act of kindness that would help that person feel whole.
We can disapprove of something that someone does BUT that something that they do has no impact on you so why do you have to judge them by your views of what they should or should not do?
Religion is often cited as the reason for such behaviors but the very same religion they are citing tells them to be kind to others and treat them how you wish to be treated.
Hypocrisy is often the root of many problems. If only people would take the time to be kind and actually care about others. We might have a chance of being better for the world as a whole.
Be kind in all that you do, and release the judgement you have upon others and allow them to be whole in who they are.
