End of Election Season

The election day came on November 4th and many of the results was came about that night with some the following morning and others still yet to be determined. I mostly followed the C-SPAN Results page for updates. Prior to election day the general sentiment I heard over and over was that this election was going to be a landslide no matter the outcome. Whoever wins will be in a dominant fashion. This take mostly panned out but it has some nuance to it.

Screenshot of the results as of 6:13pm Central November 10, 2024.

Based on the number of votes difference it was not a landslide BUT based on the electoral college results it was a landslide.

But Looking at the votes tells a larger story. In 2020 Joe Biden won his presidency with a little over 81 million votes to Donald Trump’s little over 74 million votes. Today in 2024 Donald Trump won his second presidency with close to 75 million votes to Kamala Harris’ little over 71 million votes.

Fascinating that 10 million voters disappeared in 4 years for the democratic ticket whereas the republican ticket gained about 400,000 voters.

Once you look at the breakout of the numbers things start to truly tell a story.

The main story that is being told that America is not ready for a woman leader nor is it ready for a woman leader that is not labeled a white christian.

I have been hearing and reading all kinds of views over the last few days. Listening to the varied perspectives have helped me understand more about why I feel the way that I feel.

One thing I have heard over the years as things have become more divisive is that we should not be losing our friendships over our politics and that we all have more in common than we do not have in common. And while that sounds good and great in a perfect world, we live in a imperfect world. We live in a world where we do not all have the same playing field to participate on.

I am polite, cordial and kind to just about everyone BUT I also realize that not everyone is truly about making the world a better place for themself much less myself. I look at how people vote and their belief in the people that they elect and their understanding of how things work. I do not have a perfect view of understanding but it is in the right direction. Many people vote based on their feelings rather than the reality in front of them. More on this some other time.

Every single person eligible to vote participates in the election when it happens. They either cast a ballot for the winner, cast a ballot for the loser, chose to let others choose the winner. The reason why people that do not vote are casting a ballot is because someone will be elected no matter if turnout is 1% or 100% turnout.

People have been lulled into thinking that an election is not important to their lives and that all politicians are crooked or corrupt. If that is the case then why allow them to continue to be elected and be paid by taxpayer money? So many things are illogical in how things are spoken about in relation to how things work. People often say that we need term-limits but forget that an election is a term limit. It is very illogical to want a term limit while simultaneously casting a ballot for the very same person you believe needs a term limit.

People vote against their own best interest and the people around me are voting to cause harm to those around me. I wish they could see the harm they cause for what it is rather than making decisions based on what they believe is their best interest.

More to come, as this is just the gathering of my thoughts. I am not done yet. The words I want to type need to be placed into a more digestible position because right now they are not nice.
