On the cusp

Today is Monday November 4, 2024 and we are on the cusp of the election. The season has been long, painful and more annoying than it needs to be.

Politics unfortunately are dirty and more fight than they need to be. People have grown tired of ‘slander’ as a tactic yet the people that choose to take the high road are often the ones not elected. So it is a direct cause-effect that happens.

Society is mostly caught up in living day to day because not enough people can work a normal 40 hours a week much less anything less than that and make ends meet. And because of this high amount of people not having enough time to pay attention to the things that impact them based on their decisions bad decisions are often the result.

Many people say they do not like politicians yet are perfectly happy electing them again and again and again, wash/rinse/repeat. Many politicians have no requirement to do good things for their constituents that they represent, much less the ones that actually vote them in.

Clear air, clean water, safe food, a doctor / hospital to visit or see? Everyone cares but very few are willing to actually look at what elected people have done and decide to change to someone else to do it because it has not been done. Elected officials no longer fear the chances of being voted out. Many are elected solely for the task of obfuscation of the process of legislating our society. They are cheered on for not working to make laws rather than being shamed for not making laws.

People say we need term limits. As they elect the person, again, that has represented them for 10+ years. Each election is a term limit. Many cities, counties/parishes, states have elections besides ‘Federal’ elections. Voter turnout is not good enough for the people that are under the thumb of oppression by society. Many people just check out because they feel they are not directly impacted. But when one person is impacted we all have some impact from it. Each person held back from their potential is another chance for success thwarted.

Once the votes are cast and the victors are called out in name the next step of political season begins. Get your pens, paper, emails and stamps together. Time to write each person that represents them and tell them what you want / need as a constituent of theirs. They are counting on you not to reach out to them.
