Today, October 29, 2026, I was listening to UrbanView and Lurie Daniel Favors was on. She shared a perspective that was a fantastic view on politics.
Elected Officials are similar to Transportation.
When you can vote for someone that aligns with your wants and needs that is similar to getting a lyft / uber / taxi. You get door to door personalized service.
When you can vote for someone that shares similar values but not all of your values that is similar to getting on a bus. You get neighborhood service but will need to put in some more work to get to where you are going.
When you vote for someone that does not have your values it is similar to getting on a train. You need to do some work to get there.
The main differences with all of these choices is how much work you have to put in. Ultimately you have to put in work. Because sometimes you will support someone that sounds good but will put you in the wrong direction. Taking time to stay engaged and make sure that you are always making progress at going in the right direction. Sometimes you support someone that diverts your progress and you have to get off and go another path.
When you vote you have to decide if you want to vote for change, vote to keep things the same, or let someone else pick the winner. Either way you participate in the election.
The key to making the right decision when it comes to election is that you always have the power to change the direction you are going. You should be either going in the right direction, going to the right destination or making adjustments to avoid going in the wrong direction.
Stay safe out there and know that your job with an election ends when you cast your ballot but you have the next job that begins after the election. That next job is to hold the elected official accountable.
